I’d add that while chance favors the prepared mind, sometimes it is just luck that you are on the wrong side of. Torture yourself a bit, then move on and try again and hope you end up on the other side of the coin. Laugh at the incredible gift you have been given to be able to try.
The other comment is that there is a perpetual strain between hiring the best people and knowing that they will try to gut you and throw you away to take over the first chance they can get. You have to still be brave and confident and hire the best people.
I must confess, I missed your original post, but this is so bloody awesome. I agree with so much of what you have written here and it has inspired me to take a moment to think about my own lessons.
Cheers Sudeep. The best lessons are the ones learnt the hard way from years of big mistakes, small victories and time. I'm sure you've got a heap of excellent ones to add too.
A lot of the things you write about resonate with me because they are lessons learned from a life well lived and one of giving as you do in your writing. Thank you
OMG- could not love this more- I remember reading and sharing when you first published it- and appreciated you relieving me of my inbox guilt (that's what search is for!) and reminding me about all of the INCREDIBLE relationships I have made along the way. And this time i'm adopting the 8 or NO rule. Can't wait for the next book.

These are excellent additions James. I love the inherent tension in hiring great people.

Thanks Millie. V glad to hear they are resonating with you!

It was quite fun to revisit the original post a few years later. Rule number 8 is a one I keep coming back to as well.
